#intangibleculturalheritage, Banglanatak dot com presents a new virtual exhibit, ‘Living Heritage Trails of Palghar' is being launched on Google Arts & Culture. This exhibit celebrates the diversity and richness of the living heritage of Palghar, raising awareness of the importance of its safeguarding and continuity. The exhibit highlights that the living heritage can become a driver of sustainability when linked to local community led tourism and village development – not just economically, but also socially and culturally.
The online exhibit Living Heritage Trails of Palghar brings together stories of diverse tribal communities of the region and introduces the key cultural hubs and art villages of Palghar where visitors can experience the authentic intangible cultural heritages of Warli painting, Bohada mask making, basketry, folk music and dance. Through this digital curation, audiences are guided into the vibrant cultural landscape of Palghar.
These exhibits are the outcome of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation’s (MTDC) unique initiative to develop intangible cultural heritage–based experiential tourism in Palghar and Nashik.
The exhibit opens up unseen layers of Palghar’s intangible cultural heritage – from the lyrical sound of tribal music to the intricate crafts of masks and Warli paintings offering the online visitors an immersive journey through visuals, stories, audio-visuals, and interactive elements.
Dr. Atul Patne, Principal Secretary, Dept of Tourism, Govt of Maharashtra, India, said, "I am very happy that Google Arts & Culture is releasing our story of an immersive journey into the rich ICH of Palghar and their ICH based cultural landscape offering unique tourism possibilities in villages of Palghar district, Maharashtra to celebrate International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. I also take this opportunity to invite the global culture lovers to come and experience the same."
